About the Author

Hello, my name is Gregory Baines, and I was born and raised in Detroit, MI. I grew up on the North end side of town.  I gained an interest in writing at an early age when I saw my oldest sister Kim writing stories. So, I started creating my own comic books while in the fourth grade.

And because I always enjoyed sit-com television, I decided I wanted to write for television. I attended Wayne State University and graduated with a BA in Communications.  During the time I attended classes I participated in internships with Barden Cablevision’s channel 6 and public broadcasting channel 56. I finally ended up working jobs that didn’t lead me anywhere near my goal as a writer. Between school and work I wrote my first children’s book, “The Chocolate Children Eater.”

Some years later, I joined Connect with Detroit Magazine as a writer, and this is where I discovered another passion of mine, photography. Outside of the magazine I would have guest come to my home for photoshoots; Baby pictures, prom pictures, or just for fun pictures.

Eventually I wrote my 2nd book, “Oliver the Onion.” I use photography to take pictures of the characters and create the scenery with the use of construction paper.  This book became a huge hit amongst family and friends. the characters were a great fit for a play presented by Stephanie Scott and her Star II Center for Dance, during their Winter Showcase in 2018.
